We were honoured to play a small but effective part in flying the flag for Yorkshire during the Tour De France’s amazing Grand Depart last weekend.

It has been an exciting year working closely with our client Black Sheep Brewery during the build-up to one of the world’s greatest sporting spectacles, which included the launch of its seasonal beer Velo and culminated in the spectacular ‘Le Grand Party’ in Masham.

Co-ordinating national appearances on Sky Sports News and BBC Radio 5Live, not to mention Good Morning Britain and giving ITV’s commentary the perfect brief of the area as the riders sped through Masham, were particularly memorable and helped put the town and brewery in the spotlight.

We even managed to play our part in getting both the Black Sheep Brewery and its family rival, Theakston’s brewery, together live on air – in what must be the first time the pair have come together for an interview in some time! Rivalry aside, it was great to see both businesses unite for the fantastic occasion.

Le Grand Depart weekend started off well for two lucky couples who were treated to a two night’s stay at Middlethorpe Hall and a helicopter ride around the route of the tour’s first stage in joint initiatives we organised between Black Sheep Brewery, Newsquest and the Publicans Morning Advertiser. The joy of the two sets of winners as they took off from the luxurious hotel was priceless, in what was a great result following months of planning the competition and liaising with the media partners to make it happen.

Also, some of our other Yorkshire-based clients were active in supporting the Grand Depart, including the Wetherby Whaler which posted supporting videos of its staff on social media and the Wensleydale Heifer, which sent its mascot ‘Ted’ in his special Tour De France yellow jersey on a virtual tour of the county to offer Facebook users the chance to win vouchers for the restaurant.

It has been a busy period for Recognition, but one that has been enjoyable and well worth all of the hard work!
