Charitable trio raise money for kids in time for Christmas

Three North East businesses have joined forces to raise money for the Mission Christmas Cash for Kids campaign by auctioning off a luxury holiday to Madrid.
Proceeds of the charitable lot, which raised £500, contributed to the drop off point donations from Jackson Hogg, one of the North East’s leading recruitment firms.
The mini-break prize included a two day B&B stay at the Hilton Hotel in Madrid, donated through Charity Escapes, a not-for-profit initiative that aims to achieve the highest potential donation for charity from donated holidays, room nights or short breaks.
Jackson Hogg, which has run a successful present drop off point throughout November and December, donated flights from Newcastle Airport to form part of the lot.
Auction House Thomas N Miller, who hosted the lot free of charge, donated the buyer’s premium, so that all money raised could go to Metro Radio’s campaign, which provides Christmas presents for disadvantaged children and young people aged 0-18 years.
The scheme was organised by Head of IT, Technology and Digital at Jackson Hogg, Sarah Harper, who said: “We are supporting Cash for Kids because we strive to be a caring and family oriented company who appreciates the fortunate position we are in and so wanted to give back to the area. We hated the thought of kids waking up on Christmas day without any presents, so contributing to the campaign was important to us.
“Charity Escapes is a brilliant organisation which does great work matching donations with worthy causes, and we are very grateful to them, and to the Hilton Hotel group, for their contributions. We would also like to thank Thomas N Miller for not only hosting the lot, but also for donating money to the cause.”
Carly Sells, Account Manager at Charity Escapes, said: “It’s great when organisations like Jackson Hogg decide to organise charitable activities like this. Because of how unusual this is, they have actually made a huge difference by engaging with a new audience, which is great for raising awareness of causes like Cash for Kids.”
Alistair Scott, Partner at Thomas N Miller Auction House, said: “We usually start our sale with something like a tray full of china, or an old decanter, but we were delighted when Jackson Hogg approached us to host a charity lot, as it was a welcome change for us. The Cash for Kids campaign does brilliant work around Christmas time, and we were proud to be able to help.”
The winner of the lot, Charlie Jackson from Houghton Le Spring, who placed his bid online, said: “I heard about the lot on social media and knowing about the campaign and the wonderful work it does, so I am proud to be involved.”
