Aman Chahal of TaperedPlus says retrofitting flat roofs can achieve major energy savings
Following the recent third reading of the Energy Bill, Aman Chahal, CEO of TaperedPlus said that the legislation is being dominated by a conflict between those MPs seeking huge increases in the generation of renewable energy and those concerned at the impact of solar and wind farms.
Aman said: “The Welsh Government is already taking a fabric first approach to improving the energy efficiency of its buildings which is a not reliant on maintenance issues, or the wind blowing and sun shining.
“Whilst expanding our renewable energy capabilities is a crucial part of achieving net zero, focusing on improving the country’s current built environment, including commercial buildings, apartments, schools, and hospitals, is highly effective and much less contentious.
“Around 25 per cent of heat is lost through the flat roofs of commercial buildings due to inadequate insulation, so retrofitting these buildings with the latest energy efficient roofing is a long term fix that is also far less intrusive.”
