Meet Kenny – a member at our Belfast health club.
Kenny has a muscle condition which is degenerative and progressive, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. On April 5th he celebrates his 21st birthday and has set himself a challenge to swim 21 lengths of the pool the week prior to his big day!
Kenny has a 'never give up' positive attitude, a remarkable resilience and outlook to life, an ability to find humour in most things and a maturity beyond his young age.
Despite this there are hardships for Kenny which make being independent difficult. Kenny also needs to have the ability to get safely to and from college, to get on and off public transport or to go out with his friends.
Currently, his manual wheelchair is fine for internal use but is less safe and can be restrictive in many outdoor settings. So, to support his independence we hope to raise enough funding for a new generation style power vehicle.
