TAMWORTH DAD'S CHARITY CHALLENGE IN MEMORY OF FATHER-IN-LAW

21/03/2022

Tamworth dad-of-two Damien Taylor is taking part in a gruelling fundraising challenge in aid of two charities - one of which he is raising money for in memory of his father-in-law.

He is to take part in a ten-day event consisting of climbing the national three peaks - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - plus walking the 450-odd miles in between.

Damien, who is married to Laura with whom he has two daughters, Lola and Ivy, is making sure he is fighting fit for the challenging event through his membership of Bannatyne health club Tamworth.

He is raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity in memory of his father-in-law Tommy Skinner, who died in 2017 from a rare brain tumour, and children's charity Molly Olly's Wishes.

Damien, 31, who works as a project launch engineer, said: "The Brain Tumour Charity is very close to my wife and family's hearts.

"This fundraising is in tribute to Laura's dad, Tommy, whom we lost to a rare brain tumour. He fought the bravest battle, but after numerous operations and treatments, he sadly passed away.

"Listening to my two girls talk about him every day, I can assure you he will never be forgotten.

"The more funding that the Brain Tumour Charity can attract means more research can be done to help families and for it to move forward with treatments and, ultimately, to find that all important cure."

Damien's mammoth charity challenge kicks off on Friday June 3 and his preparation has involved treadmill sessions to help with cardio and stamina, lots of weight training to help leg strengthat the health club in Bonehill Road.

Joe McEvoy, Bannatyne health club Tamworth general manager, said: "Best of luck to Damien for taking on such a demanding challenge.

"He has been putting a substantial amount of time in at the club, where he has been a member for threeyears, to make sure he is at peak fitness for this feat of endurance, which we hope will bring in much-needed funding for two wonderful charities."

The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, it focuses on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change.

Molly Olly’s Wishes supports children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to help with their emotional wellbeing.

It provides gifts to individuals and donates therapeutic toys and books to both children directly and to hospitals throughout the UK.
