TAMWORTH MEMBER SWIMS FOR DIABETES UK

08/11/2021

Lyndsey Seymour, a member of The Bannatyne Health club in Tamworth, has taken part in the Swim 22 Challenge, in support of Diabetes UK.

The challenge is the equivalent of swimming the English Channel from Dover to Calais. It has been going for 8 years and so far, has raised a total of £4 million for much needed research and support for people living with diabetes.

At the start of the challenge Lyndsey decided to swim 44 miles by swimming Dover to Calais and back however after 5 weeks she has blown her initial target out the water by swimming over 60 miles!

Lyndsey finished the challenge on the 22nd of October after completing a total of 107 lengths of the health club’s pool in one evening.

Lyndsey said: “There is still so much more that needs to be improved in awareness and diabetic care. Scarily, complications of diabetes lead to over 500 premature deaths every week and that shouldn't be happening in this day and age!

“There are currently 4.8 million people living with Diabetes in the UK, and I am one of them. It was my motivation to beat the 44 miles and to set a personal goal of 60 miles”

Mark Reynolds, general manager at Bannatyne Health Club & Spa Tamworth, said: “It has been great to see Lyndsey complete this difficult challenge and our staff have been keeping up to date with her progress on her fundraising page over the 5 weeks. It’s great to see Lyndsey beat her original target by 16 miles”

Great achievement Lyndsey well done!
