Altrincham-based manufacturer Farrat discussed the necessity to reduce steel’s carbon footprint with Sir Graham Brady MP during a recent visit to its factory.

Farrat is a specialist engineering company that designs and manufactures high-performance vibration isolation, thermal isolation and precision levelling solutions for buildings, industrial and power generation equipment around the world. Over the last six decades, it has grown to become an exporter of a wide and varied portfolio of high-performance solutions worldwide through a growing network of global distributors.

Sir Graham was given a tour of the factory and was introduced to both the work done in manufacturing and research and development, as well as to Farrat’scommitment to supporting the local community. This includes the provision of jobs for local people and support for PhD candidates.

Farrat is a member of the British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) and has signed up to its roadmap to decarbonise steel manufacturing by 2050. During Sir Graham’s visit, production manager Gareth Hogburn explained how the firm is researching new, sustainable and eco-friendly materials with the same inherent performance requirements for the future.

Chris Lister, commercial manager – Structural Thermal Breaks, Farrat, said: "It was fantastic to welcome Sir Graham to our Altrincham site and be able to show the hub of our global operations in the heart of his constituency.

"We are strong supporters of the BCSA drive to fully utilise British supplied steel and the world class fabrication and design services found in the UK, which we are proud to be a part of."

David Moore, chief executive officer of BCSA said: “I’d like to personally thank Sir Graham Brady for visiting our member Farrat to see the impressive work they do. Steel and industry are integral to the history of the North West, and it’s great that Sir Graham got a flavour of what is happening in his own constituency.”

Sir Graham Brady, MP for Altrincham and Sale West, said: “It was fantastic to take a tour around the facilities and to learn exactly what happens in the factory where the team is taking an innovative approach to engineering challenges.”
