CARE HOME SUPPORTS STAFF CAREER PROGRESSION

20/10/2021

A Tyneside care home has demonstrated its strong focus on staff development with one team member moving up the career ladder from care assistant to nursing assistant.

Tony Jardine, who works at Kenton Hall care home in Kenton Lane, Newcastle, has been given the necessary support and training to progress his career after showing an interest in becoming a nursing assistant.

This has included completing Social Care Assistant Practitioner (SCAP) training and he is now qualified to take bloods, oversee catheter care, and undertake other clinical work.

Tony started at Kenton Hall more than two years ago as a carer as he wanted to have a career dedicated to helping people.

He feels the SCAP training has ‘vastly increased’ his knowledge and clinical skills and equipped him to provide a higher level of care to residents while supporting senior and junior colleges.

He added: “I am proud to have been considered for the opportunity to progress into a nursing assistant position – it is part of the natural progression that I always have wanted.”

Steve Massey, operations manager at Solehawk, said: “We are committed to helping our staff achieve their full potential and further their career ambitions.

“Tony is a prime example of how staff at Solehawk, who are keep to expand their knowledge and skills, are given appropriate training and support to gain promotion within the business. We wish him well in his new roles as nursing assistant.”

Kenton Hall, which also has 60 beds, care for those aged 65 and over, who require nursing or personal care. It also has been evaluated as good by the CQC
