Miller & Carter steakhouse to join premium occupiers at Milburngate

The developers of Milburngate have reached agreement with Mitchells & Butlers to bring its Miller & Carter steakhouse, to their premium Durham City development.

Expected to create in the region of 30 new jobs, the 5,200 sq ft restaurant will be set across two floors, including a mezzanine, with stunning views overlooking Durham’s riverside and the historic Cathedral and Castle.

Serving more than one million premium-grade beef steaks each year, which are carefully selected from cattle reared on sustainable British farms and traceable from field to plate, Miller & Carter has become one of Britain’s best-known steak restaurants.

Miller & Carter represents the latest in a series of high-quality leisure and hospitality brands that have chosen to locate to Milburngate. These include the Everyman boutique cinema and Pitcher & Piano, as well as Premier Inn’s 92-bed hotel incorporating their new concept restaurant Bar + Block, detailed planning for which has recently been submitted.

The developers are also in talks with other premium operators to pre-let the remaining space within phase one of the retail and leisure element at Milburngate, where a limited number of high-specification, river frontage units remain available.

This landmark development in Durham City, which is being developed by Arlington Real Estate and the Richardson family, will create a regionally-significant destination and lead to the creation of more than 1,000 new jobs, as well as enhancing the leisure, business and residential opportunities in the area.

The development consortium consists of Arlington Real Estate and Richardsons Capital LLP.

Arlington Real Estate and Carillion also work in partnership on another flagship County Durham development, DurhamGate. Located five miles south of Durham City, DurhamGate is on the site of Black & Decker former UK headquarters and, at 60 acres, is the largest regeneration project in the North East.

The project includes the regeneration of Freemans Reach and the redevelopment of Milburngate House, which are on adjacent banks of the River Wear in the heart of Durham City.
