Supporting industry diversity with new Womens Utilities Network partnership
Fulcrum, the leading independent net-zero focused multi-utility infrastructure and services provider, has become an official partner of the Womens Utilities Network (WUN) to support its commitment for greater diversity in its industry.
WUN was founded in 2018 with the aim of building a community of women who are all involved in the utilities industry who can offer support, connections and develop one another to expand opportunities and career progression.
Women currently only make up 19 percent of the workforce in the utilities sector. While Fulcrum currently exceeds this figure, with women making up 26 percent of its workforce, the business is committed to increasing this figure and also helping to develop the careers of its existing team.
This includes working closely with WUN on initiatives that boosts female engagement with the broad range of opportunities in the utilities industry.
Fulcrum’s Asset Director, Carly Ferguson, will also be offering her services as a WUN mentor. Carly has 13 years’ experience, and an impressive and award-winning career in the utilities sector. She’ll be mentoring individuals with her experienced view in order to support potential development and growth in their career.
Several Fulcrum employees will be taking part in WUN’s calendar of events on subjects such as negotiation skills and innovation in the utilities sector. These events offer the opportunity for women to network with other professionals in the industry and learn about the latest news and developments taking place.
WUN also runs a series of workshops, including its #IamRemarkable programme, which strives to empower women and other underrepresented groups to speak openly about their accomplishments in the workplace and beyond.
Carly said: “We are extremely passionate about not only encouraging diversity, but providing the opportunities for people of all genders and backgrounds to forge successful careers in our business and the wider industry.”
“Organisations like the Womens Utilities Network are fundamental to encouraging greater diversity across the industry’s workforce and this is an exceptionally important partnership for our business and its people.
“A number of colleagues have benefited from WUN initiatives on an individual basis, but as a business we can play a more formal role in supporting its aims and ambitions, which we all share.
“From my experience, the utilities sector offers a wide range of long-term career opportunities for people of all backgrounds and experience and it’s important to get that message across to potential new entrants, but also those already in the industry looking to take the next steps in their careers.”
