20/12/2021

GMI Construction Group has donated more than £9,000 to Martin House Children’s Hospice – taking its total contribution to more than £75,000 since 2012.

It has also become an official partner of the charity, which cares for babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions across West, North and East Yorkshire.

The latest donation of £9,293 was generated by GMI staff taking part in a host of events during the past year, including charity raffles, sponsored events, and various site versus site challenges.

One of the largest independent construction companies in the North and Midlands, with offices in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and Teesside, it has also donated 16 tablet computers to the hospice to ensure its patients remain connected.

Lee Powell, GMI’s Divisional Managing Director Yorkshire, said: “Martin House continues to inspire this business as well as our employees and we are delighted to be able to help support its vital work.

“Our continued commitment to the hospice is underlined by our recent decision to become an official partner. GMI Construction Group believes in corporate social responsibility, giving back to the communities in which we operate.

“Our employees are genuinely enthusiastic when it comes to their support for the charity as they all appreciate and value the huge difference it makes to so many families in very difficult circumstances.”

Gavin Draper, Partnership Development Manager at Martin House Children’s Hospice, said: “After several years of fundraising for Martin House we are delighted that GMI Construction have solidified their commitment to us by becoming an official partner. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support and look forward to working in partnership in the years to come.”

Services provided by the hospice, at Boston Spar, near Wetherby, includes planned respite stays, symptom control, emergency care, end-of-life care, and bereavement support.

Every year it cares for more than 420 children and their families as well as around 150 bereaved families, at its hospice, in hospitals and in the community. It costs nearly £9m a year to provide this care, the majority of which comes from voluntary donations and fundraising.
