GMI Construction Group gifts tech to support Birmingham school’s classroom learning

22/12/2021

GMI Construction Group has donated 17 tablet computers to Chilwell Croft Academy in Newtown, Birmingham, to transform the pupils’ classroom learning experience.

One of the largest independent construction companies in the Midlands and the North of England, the iPad and Samsung tablets were refurbished and reformatted as part of an upgrade of the firm’s on-site technology.

Pupils at the school come from diverse backgrounds and the computer tablets will be used to support their classroom learning experience. They will also help improve the communication skills of those children who do not speak English as a first language.

After weeks of hard work, the devices were delivered to the school by GMI’s IT technician Ritchie Thorn, who said the donation reflected the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Jilly Cosgrove, Chairman of Property for Kids said, “As this school faces different challenges and circumstances, they are over the moon with the generous donation made by GMI Construction. This technology will massively benefit the children and will change their way of learning completely helping some with the most basic communication that we take for granted. The team from GMI will never know the impact this will have on the children that will use them.”

Ritchie Thorn added; "This is an excellent example of the partnerships developed by GMI in the communities where it works, creating social value wherever possible.

“It’s been great to visit Chilwell Croft Academy to deliver these key pieces of technology and meet the staff and the pupils, who I hope will really benefit from using these devices.

“We are grateful for the support of a supplier in offering new chargers to accompany the devices, while full credit also goes to our operational colleagues, who have looked after the tablets, keeping them inside a case. It’s due to their care that we have been able repurpose them and gift them to the school.”
