GMI Construction Group gifts tech to support Merseyside school’s classroom learning

21/12/2021

GMI Construction Group has donated 16 tablet computers to Kirkby Church of England Primary School on Merseyside to help transform the pupils’ classroom learning experience.

One of the largest independent construction companies in the North of England and the Midlands, the iPad and Samsung tablets were refurbished and reformatted as part of an upgrade of the firm’s on-site technology.

After weeks of hard work, the devices were delivered to the school by GMI’s IT Support Lead, Adam Wozniak – who said the gift not only represented responsible sustainability but an investment in education.

Headteacher Mair Hindmarsh said: “You just don’t know what this will mean to the school. These tablets will be used by the pupils for educational needs.

“We teach via tablets and via mobiles and young children are so accustomed to this, as that’s what they see and use at home, and that’s what they also see in school now thanks to this super gesture.

“On top of that, we have some Brazilian children in the school and English is not their first language. The apps available through iPads will really help them communicate better.”

Adam Wozniak said: “This project has not only been good for our business but great for our social value and partnerships we have in the communities where we work. It’s been great to visit schools like Kirkby Church of England Primary and deliver these key pieces of technology that will no doubt help them in their education.”

Thomas West, GMI’s Technology Director, said: “We are pleased we could provide the tablets and bring the project together at this time of year and at a moment when technology could be absolutely vital to young people’s learning.

“We are also grateful for the support of a supplier for offering new chargers to accompany the devices. We wanted brand new chargers to match devices. Full credit goes to our operational colleagues, who have looked after them and kept the tablets inside a case, and it’s due to that care that we have been able to gift them to the school.”
