Work progressing well on £52m Thorpe Park office building

07/07/2021

Here are the latest images from GMI Construction Group showing progress on the £52 million state-of-the-art office building at Thorpe Park, Leeds.

It was appointed as principal contractor on the Grade A 133,118 sq. ft building project by Scarborough Group International (SGI).

The building has already been pre-let to leading credit management company Lowell which is relocating its UK headquarters from two sites at Leeds Valley Park.

GMI, whose regional office is in the city, expects to complete the building by September 2022, ready for Lowell to begin their CAT-B fit-out works before its 2023 move.

It is said to represent the largest single out of town office deal in West Yorkshire and the biggest property transaction in the Northern Powerhouse region over the last 12 months.

In May, representatives from SGI, Lowell and GMI Construction, met on site to perform the official ground-breaking ceremony.

Lee Powell, Divisional Managing Director of GMI Construction Group, said: “It’s great to have started work in earnest and to see this prestigious project taking shape.

“The scale of delivery is significant, but as principal contractor we are working closely with the entire delivery team to ensure it’s completed within the agreed time scale.

“GMI Construction has been involved with this project from a very early stage and we’re delighted the construction phase of the works is progressing well.”

Designed by award-winning architects, Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher, the building will extend over seven floors with two levels of underground podium, parking, and amenity below.

Except for the hotel, GMI has constructed all the other elements of Thorpe Park, from more than 900,000 sq. ft of office space supporting 5,500 jobs, to The Springs, a £55m purpose-built retail and leisure park comprising 33 retail units, health and fitness club and multiplex cinema.

It is a well-established business location, with its own dedicated access at Junction 46 of the M1.

Further development plans include the delivery of a 113-acre public park with sports and wellbeing facilities for the community of the Leeds City Region and beyond.
