A West Sussex care home has made a footballing dream come true for one of its residents.

Mark Field was thrilled when Windermere House, which supports people with long-term neurological conditions and is based in Horsham, arranged a tour of Fulham football club as he has been a long-time avid fan.

The tour, which was arranged by Jasmine Afaily-Zadeh, the home’s positive behaviour support practitioner, brought back many memories for Mark, who used to go and watch Fulham play.

The visit to the Cottagers’ ground took in the changing rooms, player tunnels and all its wheelchair accessible areas.

Mark said: “It was a fantastic day out. Getting a behind-the-scenes tour at my favourite football club was a dream come true. I have been a fan for many years and used to regularly attend matches, but I have never had glimpse behind the scenes. I felt like a real VIP.

“I cannot thank Jasmine and Windermere House enough for organising such a memorable trip that will stay with me for ever.”

Martin De Lange Stean, manager of the home, which is part of Silverlake Care, said: “At Windermere House, we pride ourselves on coming up with activities, ideas and days out that correspond with our residents’ interest and hobbies.

“Mark is such a big fan of Fulham FC that he had a grand day out and he has been sharing stories about his trip with residents, who are fellow football fans.”

Windermere House, in Guilford Road, Broadbridge Heath, provides nursing care for those living with acquired brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and motor neurone disease.

Its amenities include a salt cave and hydrotherapy pools along with a range of assistive technology and an innovative approach to enhance the lifestyles of the people it supports.

It has been rated as ‘good’ by the industry regulator, the Care Quality Commission, which assesses a home’s safety, effectiveness, standards of care, responsiveness, and management.
