Jeremy Middleton preparing for CEO sleepout.

North East entrepreneur and angel investor Jeremy Middleton, head of £50million pound investment company Middleton Enterprises, is giving up his bed for the night to experience the challenges of sleeping rough to raise awareness and vital funds for homelessness related organisations and charities, including The Cyrenians.

Jeremy is supporting the ‘CEO Sleepout’, organised by Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation, which will see 57 business leaders give up a night of luxury to sleep rough in Newcastle for one night.

The UK’s first CEO Sleepout, held in Middlesbrough earlier this year, raised more than £30,000. The Newcastle event is hoping to raise in excess of £57,000 which will go towards helping some of the most vulnerable people in society. Previous funds raised have contributed to initiatives such as Middlesbrough Homeless Football Club, which uses sport as a way to create confidence and enthusiasm for the vulnerable people involved.

Supported by Newcastle United Football Club Foundation, the Tyneside event is the first of what creator Andy Preston believes will become a national event and will see business leaders from across the region sleep pitch-side at the iconic St James’ Park football stadium.

Jeremy Middleton said: “I became involved with the CEO Sleepout as I’m a Trustee of the charity The Cyrenians. Every month, the charity supports thousands of vulnerable and homeless people from across the region, helping them to make positive changes in their lives. When I heard about the Sleepout I thought it was a great idea and a way to raise money for initiatives to help homeless people. I am looking forward to seeing the positive effect the funds will have on homelessness across the Tyneside area.

Jeremy added: “I am really pleased to have the opportunity to take part in this initiative with other business leaders and Trustees of The Cyrenians. Homelessness affects many people and it is important not to take home comforts such as food and warmth for granted. The CEO Sleepout is a valuable experience and it will give myself and other business leaders an appreciation of how hard life on the streets can be.”

Andy Preston, Founder of the CEO Sleepout, said: I am so grateful to Jeremy and the other business leaders for taking part in the sleepout. The success of the first event in Middlesbrough has given me the belief that the initiative really can become national and help a lot more people. Homelessness is a very big issue across the country and I am hoping that the event and the money raised will make people more aware and help create more opportunities for vulnerable people.”

Stephen Bell, OBE, Chief Executive, The Cyrenians said: “We are so grateful to Jeremy and the other participants who are giving up their time to support the CEO Sleepout. The event is a great idea and it gives the opportunity to think about how homelessness can affect people lives. Here at The Cyrenians we work hard every day to try and help homeless and vulnerable people to change their lives and build their futures. Fundraising plays a vital part in helping us continue to do this.”
