Mohammed Bashir, Founder of Boro Taxis

Mohammed Bashir, founder of Boro Taxis, one of the largest firms of its kind in the North East, said: “The speculation about a 2p rise in the level of fuel duty is of concern to the wider transport sector, not only taxi operators, but also haulage and logistics firms that are responsible for keeping the goods and services of UK plc moving.

“There already is a disproportionate amount of tax levied on fuel with the UK having the highest fuel duty for diesel and the third highest for petrol in the EU and an increase would further distort this as well as affecting transport companies’ competitiveness.”
