Boro Taxis has renewed its sponsorship of a Teesside pool league that raises much-need funds for local causes.

This season will be the fifth that Boro Taxis has sponsored the Middlesbrough Monday Charity Pool League, which hopes to raise £3,000 for charity this year alone.

The money raised by the league will be split evenly between its three nominated causes; the Great North Air Ambulance Service, Macmillan Cancer Research and a young boy from Middlesbrough who has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

Since it was established in 1980, the league, which is the largest charity league in the north of England with more than 300 players, has raised in excess of £100,000 for local causes, charities and organisations.

Christine Bell, Company Secretary at Boro Taxis, said: “We’ve sponsored the Middlesbrough Monday Charity Pool League for five years and it’s been fantastic to see it go from strength to strength to become the largest charity league in the region.

“Over its many years in existence, the league has supported lots of local charities and organisations, which in turn has helped countless numbers of people throughout the region.

“We’re proud to sponsor the league. It is a great way for people to socialise and, at the same time, support local charities, which is something to be commended.”

Doug Reed, Chairman of Middlesbrough Monday Charity Pool League, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Boro Taxis for its ongoing support of the league. Without its sponsorship we would not be able to raise so much for local causes.

“This year, alongside our main charities, we are also raising money for a young boy from Middlesbrough who has lymphoblastic leukaemia.

“As part of his treatment, he needs to visit the Royal Freeman Hospital in Newcastle up to three times a week, so the money will be used to pay for the travel expenses. His family will use any remaining money to build him a play area in their garden.”
