Pacifica Group, the Houghton-le-Spring-based appliance repair and domestic energy service company, is offering 30 dishwashers to local healthcare workers and carers who have been on the frontline, caring for the community during the pandemic.

The company, through its 0800 Repair division, is encouraging local people from County Durham and Wearside to nominate a deserving carer who can be presented with one of the dishwashers.

Maintaining and repairing hundreds of thousands of appliances every year across the UK, 0800 Repair engineers are trained using white goods such as the dishwashers at Pacifica Group’s facility in Washington.

The dishwashers, which are ex-display models, have been replaced with newer appliances in the training centre. Rather than disposing of them, 0800 Repair engineers have fully refurbished the dishwashers so they can be donated to carers.

Healthcare workers, including those who work in the NHS and care homes, as well as those who are carers for relatives at home, can be nominated to receive a dishwasher.

Scott Pallister, Chief Operating Officer at Pacifica Group, said: “Carers have been on the frontline throughout the pandemic, and we wanted to do something that can make their lives a little easier. Part of our commitment to the environment is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill, which is why we extend the life of appliances through our repair and maintenance services, but this was another opportunity to find an alternative to disposal for the dishwashers and help people at the same time.

“We’d love local people to nominate someone they think deserves to have one of these dishwashers as a reward for their exceptional commitment to looking after people, whether it’s in the NHS, care homes or looking after relatives at home.”
