Moorgate Lodge nursing home in Rotherham is celebrating after the success of its toy collection, as part of the Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign.

Staff there asked residents’ friends and family, during planned visits, to donate new toys for children who may not receive gifts this year.

They placed a box in reception for donations, which was filled, along with two additional large bags of toys. The team delivered the gifts at the Cash for Kids drop off point in early December.

Cash for Kids supports children and young people affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, life-limiting illness, and those who have additional needs. Mission Christmas encourages ‘secret Santas’ to buy an additional new and unwrapped gift, which will be distributed to those who may be going without this Christmas.

Lisa Goodall, home manager at Moorgate Lodge, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the generous spirit of the staff and visitors at Moorgate Lodge. We collected lots of toys for local children to help them have a merry Christmas.

“Community is so important all year round, put particularly during the festive period. We’re glad to be able to help others when we can.”

Irene Coggan, a resident at Moorgate Lodge, said: “I hope all the local children have a lovely Christmas and enjoy playing with the toys we collected.”

Moorgate Lodge is located a short distance from Rotherham town centre. It forms part of Moorgate Care Village, which also includes Moorgate Hollow and Moorgate Croft. All are rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
