Children from Rosedene’s Broomfield and Northallerton settings spread a little happiness to local residents on Blue Monday.

Every third Monday in January is dubbed ‘Blue Monday’ because, due to the cold weather, the festive season being over and the wait for pay day, people feel depressed.

The nursery decided on tea-themed activities to tie in with Samaritans’ Brew Monday initiative.

Staff and children took a walk to the local B&M store and gave passers by small gifts to make them smile. The treats included flowers and chocolate bars.

They then visited local care home, Mount Vale, to deliver a hamper of teatime themed goodies, including biscuits, cakes and an all-important brew.

Brew Monday is a Samaritans campaign to remind everyone to reach out for a cuppa and a catch-up with the people they care about.

Katie Garbutt, deputy manager at Rosedene Northallerton, said: “At the start of another busy week, we wanted to share some token gifts to remind people to take five minutes to themselves to reflect and connect with others.

“At Rosedene, we feel that it’s important to also offer the time to our staff members to allow them to acknowledge the fantastic work they do to support the children and families each day, which promotes their wellbeing and a positive workplace.”

Jasmine Radmore, a nursery nurse at Rosedene Northallerton, said: “We have an open-door policy for both our parents and staff, which enables them to feel that they can always come and talk to us.

“We feel that this is important, especially at the start of a new year, when society pressures can feel overwhelming.”

Rosedene was shortlisted for three awards at the 2021 National NMT Nursery Awards. Rosedene Northallerton and Broomfield are OFSTED Good rated settings.
