New Commercial Hardtops To Be Unveiled At The CV Show

24/08/2021

Truckman, the UK manufacturer and distributor of 4x4 accessories, will unveil two new versions of its hardworking commercial Classic and Utility hardtops at the Commercial Vehicle Show in September.

The 2021 Classic and Utility hardtop will be showcased for the first time at the exhibition that takes place between 31st August and 2nd September at the NEC in Birmingham with the Classic displayed on the Truckman stand (5F70) and the Utility exhibited on Isuzu’s stand (stand No).

Incorporating a range of new features to benefit tradespeople and field-based engineers who need the all-terrain capabilities of a pick-up truck combined with the storage capacity of a van, the new hardtops will be initially available for the double cab and extra cab models of the new Isuzu D-Max Mk 6. The range will be expanded further as new pick-ups come onto the market.

The high roof Classic has been the cornerstone of the Truckman hardtop range since the 1980s, and has consistently evolved to maintain its position as a practical, contemporary accessory for users operating in industries such as construction and agriculture.

For the 2021 version, this includes the addition of optional remote central locking for increased security, which is also available for the new Utility, and increased strength to its steel reinforcement to enable it to carry a static roof load of up to 500kg. The Classic also know features a luxury handle fitted to its tailgate, which is still the strongest hardtop door available.

Both hardtops are renowned for their high roof design, which increases the storage capacity of the load bed area and enables the installation of Truckman’s ALUCA racking or its DECKED truck bed drawer storage system to increase the versatility of the truck.

Converting the pick-up truck bed into a mobile workshop for field engineers, the Utility is one of the most robust hardtops on the market and is commonly specified by companies in off-highway activities in sectors including gas, water, trackside rail and telecommunications.

Among the new additions to the Utility hardtop is an innovative ‘T-handle’, which provides a better grip to open the solid rear door, even when wearing the thickest work gloves. The stylish new streamlined design now features a high-level brake light to enhance visibility, as well as newly designed hinges offering improved durability for commercial usage.

In keeping with Truckman’s existing Utility range, the new model is adaptable and highly accessible, offering large all-round easy access to tools and equipment with a rear door and two side gull-wing doors, which are all hydraulic assisted and can be easily opened with one hand.

The new Utility retains all the standard features of previous models such as the over-rail design to offer a sleek look and prevent water ingress, as well as featuring solid rear and clamp fitting for quick and easy installation.

The Utility can be adapted with a range of accessories to suit user requirements, including optional roof bars, which are fitted to the reinforced canopy roof enabling it to transport weights of up to 500kg.

Manufactured from GRP fibreglass, the Utility hardtop is wipe clean and is OEM-colour matched to the pick-up truck.

Mike Wheeler, Executive Chairman of Truckman, said: “We are really looking forward to unveiling the new Utility and Classic hardtops at the CV Show. The Classic will be the centrepiece of our stand alongside a selection of new and bestselling commercial vehicle accessories, while we are exceptionally proud that Isuzu have chosen to showcase the Utility on its stand.

“The CV Show has always been at the heart of the industry’s calendar, and it will be so good to welcome visitors to our stand again after the interruption caused by the pandemic.”

He added: “The Truckman Classic is one of our best performing commercial hardtops and new versions are always well received by engineers and tradespeople who appreciate its quality, accessibility and security and is as hard working as they are! I am sure this new model will continue the legacy of the Classic, which began nearly forty years ago.

“With pick-up trucks becoming increasingly specified for off-highway operations, the Truckman Utility has become a popular choice for field engineers who require easy access to tools and equipment in remote locations. The new easy-access T-handle with optional remote central locking will benefit engineers and the efficiency of their mobile workshops out in the field.”
