Bristol Street Motors Leicester Citroen has given a welcome boost to a health education programme launched by a community soup kitchen in the city with a donation to purchase supplies.

The soup kitchen in Highfields, Leicester, was chosen to receive the donation after the neighbourhood organisation applied to the Social Responsibility Awards, a community initiative backed by Vertu Motors plc, the Group which operates the Bristol Street Motors franchise.

The donation will help support the soup kitchen to buy resources and medical supplies to enhance its health education programme. The funding will help to buy thermal blankets, an anatomy set, height and weight measures and a blood pressure monitor. The medical supplies will be used to help people know how to look after themselves and know when to seek medical advice to help prevent premature death.

Reverend Lorraine Burke from the Leicester soup kitchen, said: “We thank Bristol Street Motors for the kind donation, which will help to make a real difference in people’s lives across Leicester.

“The funding boost will help us to buy vital supplies for our health education programme to kick-start the project. “

Simon Blackwell, general manager at Bristol Street Motors Leicester Citroen, said: “As a dealership, we recognise the importance of supporting our local community and projects such as this.

“We are delighted to support the soup kitchen’s health education programme and help people to start on a new journey.”

Vertu Motors plc is working in conjunction with New Testament Church of God (NTCG) to deliver community-based social support schemes which offer opportunities for local people to improve their wellbeing through its Social Responsibility Programme.

Vertu Motors plc (which trades under the Bristol Street Motors, Macklin Motors, Vertu Toyota, Vertu Honda, Vertu Volkswagen, Vertu Mercedes-Benz, Farnell Jaguar Land Rover brands) was formed in late 2006 to acquire and consolidate UK motor retail businesses. The group was founded as a new entrant into the UK motor retail sector and is listed on the AIM market (UK:VTU).

In 2017, the Group became the first major UK motor retailer to offer customers the ability to purchase a used vehicle entirely online with the launch of Bristol Street Motors Buy Online, this was followed by Macklin Motors Buy Online.
