Wowza Box launches fundraising round to support growth ambitions of the authentic Chinese recipe box service

27/03/2024

WowzaBox, the North East-based authentic Chinese recipe box start-up business, has launched a £200,000 fundraising project to support its plans to expand their product offering, which will create new opportunities and jobs.

Currently located in Team Valley, Wowza Box offers a menu of authentic cuisine, many of which are region specific Chinese delicacies that are challenging to find elsewhere in the UK through a chef-led no-subscription recipe box service.

In just over a year the business, founded by Newcastle University graduate Joshy Jin, has achieved a turnover of more than £675,000 and has produced in excess of 180,000 meals to customers across the UK.

Working closely with crowdfunding platform Seedrs, Wowza Box is aiming to attract investors to enable it to expand their services, increase production volume and eventually secure new premises that will create capacity for its future growth strategy.

Currently employing five staff, the business aims to more than double its workforce, who prepare the fresh ingredients for the recipe boxes, as well as investing in new automation technology to further increase productivity.

Part of the investment will also be used for Wowza Box’s strategy to create a line of meals and ingredients for supermarkets. This will involve the use of specialist equipment and further levels of automation to meet the requirements of potential supermarket customers.

Joshy Jin said: “We are confident that the crowdfunding will help us scale our operations to increase productions through investment in people, facilities and technology.

“The recipe box market is worth around £1.4billion in the UK, and we have carved a real niche in the recipe box market, which customers are really responding to.

“No other business offers authentic restaurant quality Chinese ingredients, especially those that are prepared in such a way that cuts the cooking time for customers to around 10 minutes.

“We also believe that there is a gap in the market for branded premium offerings in the fresh Chinese food category and we are making the first steps to being able to produce a range that would be available through supermarkets. We have had early discussions with a number of local retailers and with an investment in R&D and production capabilities we will be able to offer the public something unique in both recipe box form and from a supermarket.”
