Recognition Summer Intern Programme
We operate a one month internship on an annual basis over a four week period between July 24th and August 31st - dates to be confirmed at a later date.
Is it paid …?
We pay £1000 for the month
What are the hours …?
Generally they are 8.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
What do I do as part of my internship …?
Internships tend to vary from person to person. Some people have a pretty good grasp of PR already having done degrees in PR or having had work experience elsewhere. Some people come fresh from Uni or have had experience in other sectors.
You’ll work with the consultants on client accounts as support for the team. That involves looking after the cuttings, creating media lists, putting together activity reports, doing research, booking photographers, answering the phone and assisting with the admin. Depending on what’s going on you might also end up helping with events, photoshoots, writing releases, selling in stories to media or sitting in on client meetings.
And there’s a lot of reading the media. Papers, magazines, online. This is the best way to spot opportunities, learn who writes what (and when and what their deadlines are) and start to understand what makes a good story.
The role is quite varied and will give you an unforgettable experience working in a fast paced environment, where no two days are the same.
What do we look for in our interns …?
A good idea of what PR is about is a positive start and a clear understanding about why you want to get into this industry – as well as what attributes you are going to bring to it. Previous experience whether it is in a voluntary capacity or in PR is always a plus and tends to be looked upon favourably.
We look for applicants who demonstrate enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, a can-do attitude and somebody who approaches every task with positivity.
