Health Club Manager to take on 320km ultra marathon challenge for Crohn’s & Colitis UK

06/02/2024

The general manager of a Leeds health club is lacing up to run seven ultra marathons in seven days – around 320KM – to raise money for research into Crohn’s and Colitis.

Kevin Easley, the general manager at Bannatyne Health Club & Spa Leeds Cardigan Fields, has been inspired by his own personal journey with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, which impacts the lives of more than half a million people in the UK: “I’m undertaking this challenge – which is nothing like I’ve ever attempted before – because Crohn's and Colitis UK is a cause close to my heart. Having battled Ulcerative Colitis two decades ago, and witnessing my sister and nephew confront Crohn's, I understand the impact these conditions have on individuals and their families. This challenge is my way of giving back and supporting the invaluable work of the charity."

Setting off from the Kirkstall Road health club on Sunday 10 March, Kevin’s challenge will end the following week, where he will start and complete the final day’s run at Bannatyne Health Club & Spa York, followed by a celebration of his efforts with Bannatyne members, colleagues and his friends and family.

The Bannatyne community has rallied behind Kevin, with members and colleagues offering unwavering support. He added: "The reaction from everyone at the Cardigan Fields and York clubs, head office and my family has been overwhelming. While they might think I'm a bit mad, their encouragement and support mean the world to me. I’ll be thinking about them, using it as motivation to keep putting one foot in front of the other.”

Duncan Bannatyne, chairman and chief executive of The Bannatyne Group, commended Kevin for his exceptional efforts, saying “Kevin's dedication to this cause is truly inspirational. His commitment not only reflects the charitable and community spirit we’ve built at The Bannatyne Group but also on the pride that we take in celebrating the achievements of others.

"I am always inspired by the charitable challenges our team and members take on, and Kevin’s is no different. Across the group, thousands of pounds are raised every year for good causes and as a business we support several charities directly. I wish Kevin the very best of luck. We’ll have the ice packs ready for his knees at the end of the week!”
