CQC PRAISE FOR BILLINGSHURST CARE HOME

30/05/2023

Derwent Lodge care home in Billingshurst, part of Silverlake Care, has been rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission following its first inspection.

The home, based on West Street, is registered to provide care and accommodation, including nursing care. It provides care for a wide range of needs including for older persons, and those living with dementia.

The inspector noted that ‘People were happy with the care they received, felt relaxed with staff and told us they were treated with kindness. They said they felt safe, were well supported and there were enough staff to care for them.’

The care was praised, with the report stating that ‘Individual person-centred care plans had been developed, enabling staff to support people in a personalised way that was specific to their needs and preferences, including any individual religious beliefs. These included people's choices around what they enjoyed doing during the day and their preferences around clothes and personal care.’

A number of positive comments from relatives were also included in the report; ‘Sometimes [my relative] has a bad night and wanders all night, then staff let me know and he catches up on sleep during the day. It's all his choice and they are supporting him with his good and bad days.Overall, they are very caring and care is excellent. It's run well and they are very involved with people.’ ‘[My relative] goes on outings and does quizzes. They do have an Alexa which plays music people like. One time a lady was singing along, and it was lovely. People get involved in visiting garden centres, gardening and planting. My [relative] really enjoyed this.’

Lynn Fearn, managing director of Healthcare Management Solutions which operates Silverlake Care, said: “I am very proud of the whole team at Derwent Lodge for achieving this fantastic result at their first inspection.

“The whole team have dedicated themselves to providing the very best care and support to the people who live at Derwent Lodge and this report is a reflection of that effort. We are delighted that the Inspector could see the great work that is ongoing in the home and that they were able to report on the very positive comments made by relatives and other healthcare professionals.

“Well done to everyone and continue building on the great work.”
