National award for Morpeth care home colleague

12/12/2022

Richard Dobinson, activities co-ordinator at Morpeth’s Riverside House care home, has been recognised with a prestigious national award for the fantastic way he engages the residents in interesting and innovative ways.

He won Activities Team of the Year at the Caring UK awards which showcase the amazing work being carried out across the care sector.

Richard runs an activities programme tailored to the needs and interests of the residents, with a focus on engaging with the community and forging connections with locals and groups. He places huge emphasis on ensuring residents feel part of the community.

A wide range of activities take place at Riverside House and in the locality including attending Morpeth FC football matches, a church group, local entertainers, planting a time capsule, pet therapy and a community fayre.

Richard said: "We've all worked so hard to keep our activity offering diverse, interesting and fulfilling for our residents. Our residents have so much to give to society. Even though you might be in your 90s, you still have a lot to offer society and we should never forget that. A huge thank you to the local community who have shown overwhelming support for Riverside House and those in our care, they've been amazing!

"I am chuffed to bits with the award, but I couldn't have done it without our manager Julie who has been there supporting me every step of the way."

Julie Roper, manager of Riverside House said: "Richard is amazing in every aspect. He has worked his socks off and continues to do so every day. This award is half of what he deserves for the incredible work he does and the difference he makes. Our residents absolutely love Richard and I know they'll be over the moon to hear about his award!"

Riverside House, Low Stanners, Morpeth is rated as good in all categories by the industry regulator, the Care Quality Commission, which examines safety, effectiveness, responsiveness and standards of management and care.

It is an independent care home in the heart of Morpeth and boasts 46 ensuite bedrooms and is set in a substantial garden.
