A father-of-five from Braintree has launched his own business to help people extend the lifespan of their domestic appliances and to achieve a better work-life balance.

Zak Archbold has set up Archbold Appliance Repairs, a domestic appliance repair firm covering the Chelmsford area.

The 26-year-old, who is father to five children, was previously a scaffolder, which involved having to work long distances from home.

His change of career, which has been achieved with the support of Pacifica, the UK’s largest White Goods Repair business. Support has involved achieving City & Guilds qualifications in appliance repair. Zak’s business will operate on Pacifica’s industry leading technology platform. His new venture is now open for business.

A combination of the cost-of-living crisis, people becoming more environmentally aware, and manufacturers now being required to make spare parts for products available to helping extend their lifespan have all fuelled a demand for domestic repair experts.

Zak said: “My work as a scaffolder involved working long distances away from home. Also, it was lacking in job satisfaction.

“Repairing domestic appliances involves helping people in the local community and is much more customer-facing, which I will find much more enjoyable and fulfilling. In addition, it will see me achieving a better work-life balance.

“The sector also is experiencing a business boom as white goods manufacturers have to ensure spare parts are available to enable the repair of their products as well as more people opting to repair rather than replace due to the cost-of-living crisis or because they believe it is more eco-friendly. I can’t wait to get started”

Zak will be supported on his journey by Pacifica utilising tried and tested processes and systems to ensure his business remains efficient and profitable.
