Engineering expert launches domestic appliance repair business

A Wakefield-based engineering specialist with nearly two decades of experience has launched his own business to repair household goods, including washing machines and cookers, to meet a growing demand across West Yorkshire.

Liam Parker has set up Parkers Appliances, a domestic appliance repair firm covering the Wakefield area and will partner with Pacifica Local, the UK’s largest white goods repair business, to reach more customers in his area by utilising Pacifica’s client network and operating on its industry-leading technology platform.

After studying an electrical engineering course at college, Liam went on to pursue a career working as an engineer for the military and in industry. He subsequently relocated to the North to join a company working on automated machinery, electrical supplies and control panels.

The 35-year-old then became a project manager, which meant he travelled extensively across Europe and Canada. Accentuated by the Covid pandemic and his electrical qualification lapsing, he decided to pursue different opportunities.

A combination of the cost-of-living crisis and people becoming more environmentally aware, as well as manufacturers now being required to make spare parts available for certain appliances to help extend the lifespan of their products, have all fuelled demand for domestic repair experts.

Liam said, “After the pandemic, I got tired of working away and given I’ve always been fascinated with repairing things and meeting new people, setting up my own business seemed to be a natural progression.

"The job also means I can remain local, experience different challenges and enjoy a much better work-life balance.”

Outside of work, Liam enjoys hiking and taking his dogs onto the Yorkshire Dales during the shooting season when he collects partridge, pheasant and grouse.
