Engineering expert launches domestic appliance repair service

07/12/2023

A father of two has launched his own business repairing domestic appliances, including washing machines and dishwashers, around Oxford and across Gloucestershire, to meet a growing demand.

Mark Linsey, from Witney in West Oxfordshire, has ditched the office and hit the road to help people save money and reduce their carbon footprint by extending the lifespan of their domestic appliances.

Mark will also partner with Pacifica, the UK’s largest white goods repair business, via its Pacifica Local model, to reach more customers in his area by utilising Pacifica’s client network and using its industry leading technology platform.

Starting out as a motor mechanic upon leaving school, Mark became a lorry driver and then went into transport management.

He subsequently trained as a commercial refrigerating engineer and opted to become self-employed, becoming a fully certified City and Guild Assured domestic appliance engineer.

A combination of the cost-of-living crisis and people becoming more environmentally aware, as well as manufacturers now being required to make spare parts available for certain appliances to help extend the lifespan of their products, have all fuelled demand for domestic repair experts.

Under current UK law, which came into effect in March 2021, manufacturers are legally required to ensure repair information and spare parts are available for up to 10 years for certain white goods and televisions.

Square Repairs service a wide area of towns and villages from Oxford, Cheltenham, Kingham, Morton-in Marsh, Chadlington, Woodstock, Bloxham, Banbury, Chipping Campden and all local villages.

Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time with his two young sons.

Mark said: “I launched Square Repairs to become my own boss; why make money for someone else when you can do it for yourself?

“I also decided to partner with Pacifica, as I have worked with them in the past, so we already have a relationship and I know what they are about, which is to help make people aware of the benefits of opting to repair white goods rather than replacing them.

“Given the cost-of-living crisis, and how the cost of spare parts has significantly increased, as well as new appliances costing £800-£1000, I hope to help people across Oxford and Gloucestershire save hundreds of pounds.”

Paul Feek, Chief Commercial Officer at Pacifica, says: “We can’t wait to see Mark’s business flourish. The combination of using Pacifica’s tried and tested processes and systems, coupled with Mark’s hard work, will ensure a winning combination that will serve the people of Oxford and Gloucestershire well.”
