Pacifica hits 136,000 meal milestone in partnership with FareShare

24/02/2024

Pacifica, the UK’s provider of domestic appliance repairs and extended warranties in the major domestic appliance market, has funded the equivalent of more than 136,000 meals across the UK through its partnership with food redistribution charity, FareShare.

Following a significant rise in the cost of living, North East-based Pacifica decided to partner up with the charity, in a bid to support individuals with much needed food supplies.

This milestone has been reached after it helped to support the provision of the equivalent of 18,000 meals from April to December 2023.

FareShare is the UK’s biggest charity tackling food waste for social good. It works with the food industry to take good to eat surplus food, which might otherwise go to waste, and redistribute it to a network of 8,500 charities and community groups.

During the past two and a half years, Pacifica has supported FareShare with its operations, which has seen the partnership deliver thousands of meals to charities and community groups including school breakfast clubs, homeless shelters, lunch programmes for older individuals, and community cafes.

In addition, to mark its 20th year in business, Pacifica has launched a nationwide food initiative which will include the delivery of almost 10,000 items to food banks across the UK over 12 months. Employees at Pacifica will nominate a foodbank of their choice in their local area. Each month four foodbanks are selected to receive the donations.

Pacifica’s commitment to supporting foodbanks has recently expanded with its support for Sunderland and County Durham foodbank distribution centre. During the next 12 months, teams of up to six Pacifica colleagues, who will be given paid leave to volunteer, will help at the distribution centre in Chester-Le-Street, where donations are collected, sorted and distributed to various foodbanks.

Kevin Brown, CEO of Pacifica said: “We are very proud of our support for FareShare over the past couple years and are delighted to have reached this milestone, supporting the provision of 136,000 meals.

“Many of our colleagues have spent hours volunteering in support of individuals who have been affected by a significant rise in the cost of living.

“One in five people in the UK live in food insecurity, which is a staggering figure and something we hope will reduce over the years as we continue to extend our support for foodbanks and charities, for years to come.”

Miriam Emanuel, Corporate Partnerships Manager at FareShare said: “We are extremely grateful to Pacifica for their generous support. The funding provided makes a vital contribution to helping us get more food to charities and groups working to tackle the root causes of poverty. These groups are facing unprecedented demand for their services. Providing food enables them to continue offering essential wraparound support, strengthening communities and helping people in need.”

About FareShare

FareShare is the UK's biggest charity tackling food waste to support social good. We take good-to-eat surplus food from across the food industry, sort it in our regional warehouses across the UK, and pass it onto a network of over 8,500 charities and community groups. These include school clubs, community centres and pantries, hostels, refuges, older people's lunch clubs, and hospices. Three quarters of the organisations we provide food to, support children and families. During the last financial year, 2022-23, FareShare redistributed the equivalent of nearly 128 million meals - that's 4 meals every second. The 55,000 tonnes of food we redistributed stopped 95,000 tonnes of COe2 going to waste. www.fareshare.org.uk
