Vertu Volvo dealerships throw support behind Penzance Hockey Club

25/04/2024

Vertu Volvo dealerships, part of the retail brand Vertu Motors, will show their support for one of the largest sports clubs in the South West region, after entering into a shirt sponsorship agreement with Penzance Hockey Club.

The partnership will see Vertu’s Volvo dealerships across the South West come together to support the Club, as it looks to get people involved in the sport at grass roots level.

Vertu Volvo will take pride of place on the shirts of both the Men’s and Women’s first teams, led by respective captains Josh Stevens and Meghan Pengelly, whilst branding will also feature at Penzance Astro Park where the team is based.

The Club has a central role to play within the South West, operating numerous teams within local leagues representing a wide range of ages.

An active junior section provides a route into the sport for children from under ten level, with the Club also running adult teams right through to senior squads for both men and women.

Vertu Motors operates five Volvo dealerships across the South West - in Barnstaple, Exeter, Taunton, Truro and Yeovil – with the new partnership allowing the brand to support a Club that has a key role to play within the local community.

Tom Rothwell, General Manager at Vertu Volvo Truro, said: “We are delighted to be involved in sponsoring Penzance Hockey Club. As a business, we are fortunate to be able to support some great sporting teams in the South West and now can add Hockey to that list of organisations we collaborate with.

“It was a pleasure to meet the team captains, Meg and Josh, as well as Steve Butterworth, Penzance Hockey Club Trustee, and be invited to the ground recently to present them with their Vertu Volvo team shirts.

“We wish them all the best for the future and look forward to seeing the performance of the Club this season.”

Steve Butterworth, Penzance Hockey Club Trustee, said: “Having Vertu Volvo as our shirt sponsor is great news for Penzance Hockey Club. As a Club that travels around the South West, we certainly will wear them with pride at each game, both home and away.

“It was great to meet Tom, who presented us with the shirts and also had a chance to see the Club and the Vertu Volvo sign erected at our pitch, which looks great. We very much look forward to working with Vertu Volvo.”

Vertu Motors is proud to hold several other South West partnerships; Somerset County Cricket Club, Plymouth Argyle Football Club and Exeter Chiefs are all part of its portfolio in the region.
