Tees Valley businesses are increasing their headcount, thanks to a rise in revenues across the region, according to a business survey commissioned by Active Chartered Financial Planners.

The firm held its quarterly Tees Valley Business Index consultation in May, as a representative temperature check for enterprises across the five Teesside boroughs.

The first survey of the year, covering the feelings of business owners from January to March, found that 100 per cent of responders either felt very positive or positive about Tees Valley being a hub for business or industry in the future.

Since January, 66 per cent of respondents reported an increase in revenue with no respondents reporting a fall in income.

Karl Pemberton, managing director at Active Chartered Financial Planners said: “Despite a new year, we have brought with us the high levels of inflation we experienced in 2022, which has affected businesses and consumers in many ways.

“It’s great to see that businesses are using their increased turnover to great effect by employing more people and providing additional jobs for individuals across Tees Valley.

“Similar to last year, businesses remain optimistic about the future which comes as no surprise with the amount of inward investment for the region but also the prospect of a new investment zone.

“However, a consistent concern in the survey is the issue of ‘staffing’ which suggests that despite an increase in personnel, businesses want more staff or potentially higher skilled workers to compete with other companies in the UK and around the world in their respective sectors.
