A member at the Bannatyne health club & spa in Blackpool is undertaking a gruelling challenge to raise money to support a leading menopause charity.

After struggling for six years with the effects of the menopause Diane Mitchell finally received the help and support she needed from the charity Women’s Health Concern (WHC).

She now plans to do a sprint triathlon – 750m swim, 5km run and 20km cycle ride on 5th March at the Bannatyne health club in the town’s Rigby Road.

Women’s Health Concern is the patient arm of the British Menopause Society (BMS). It provides a confidential, independent service to advise, reassure and educate women of all ages about their gynaecological and sexual health, wellbeing and lifestyle concerns.

A key objective is for women to forge a closer relationship with their general practitioners, nurses and other health professionals.

Diane said: “The menopause was really taking a toll on my health, and I was told I couldn’t take hormone replacement therapy because my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer while she was taking it.

“It was only when I got in touch with WHC that I could see a light at the end of the tunnel. I feel my life has been transformed and this inspired me to improve my fitness and to highlight the issues so many women face, and that there is help out there.

“The team at Bannatyne’s has been amazing and I know they’ll all be supporting me when I do the triathlon. I’m determined to succeed and raise as much money and awareness as possible.”

Adam Pratt, general manager at the Bannatyne health club & spa Blackpool said: “Diane has worked really hard on her fitness, and this will be a real challenge, but I am sure that she will achieve her aims.

“We will all the cheering her on and wishing her the very best.”
