BEYOND HOUSING GIVES FUNDRAISING BOOST TO REDCAR CHARITY

Beyond Housing has made a £500 donation to a local knife and gun crime charity, after a staff fundraiser brought in £2,000 for good causes.

The money will be split between the Chris Cave Foundation and Footprints in the Community in Redcar and two charities in Scarborough.

Beyond Housing raised the money through team building exercises, where points earned were converted into cash for the charities. The colleagues then selected two charities in each of the Redcar and Scarborough regions to receive a donation.

The Chris Cave Foundation was established in 2005 by Theresa Cave, following the death of her 17-year-old son, who was stabbed in the stairwell of a block of flats in Redcar while visiting a friend.

Since his death, Chris’s mother and brother Tom have worked to prevent violent crime and to raise funds for projects that aim to ‘kill violence on the street’. The charity also offers support to families of victims of violent crime across the UK.

Footprints in the Community offers a variety of services under one umbrella to help address isolation and poverty in and around Redcar, and to provide a network of support to local people and organisations.

Rachael Crooks, Community Partnership & Engagement Manager at Beyond Housing, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support four charities, local to our two offices, that are such great causes.

“The Chris Cave Foundation delivers training and support not only to victims and their families, but also to fantastic projects all over the country that are working to make the streets safer.

“Footprints in the Community provides essential services to help combat isolation and poverty, and we’re glad to have provided them with a donation ahead of a winter where many people will need their help due to the rising cost of energy.

“Beyond Housing is part of its local communities and will always look for ways to support good causes and projects in the region.”

Theresa Cave, Founder of the Chris Cave Foundation, said: “Since the Foundation was established, Tom and I have worked with the Home Office and the Ministry of Justice, as well as grassroots projects, to try and end street violence so no one else goes what we go through. Sadly, recent reports have highlighted that there’s still a lot more work to be done.

“I’d like to say thank you to the team at Beyond Housing for supporting us. Charities like ours depend on donations to survive, and we’re grateful that they thought of us for their fundraiser.”
