BEYOND HOUSING’S £16M CHURCH LANE NORTH REGENERATION SCHEME WELCOMES FIRST NEW RESIDENTS

02/08/2023

Beyond Housing has taken handover of the first new build homes to be completed as part of the ambitious £16 million regeneration scheme at Church Lane North in Grangetown, Redcar and Cleveland.

The two homes, which are the first of 33 new affordable homes being built as part of the comprehensive regeneration, have been handed over and new customers have moved in. These new homes have been blended in with existing homes on the estate using render and matching colour palettes.

The regeneration, which Beyond Housing is delivering in partnership with contractors Equans, first began in May 2018 based on design proposals developed with residents. The regeneration also includes training and employment opportunities as well as engagement with the community. The project is delivering wide ranging improvements to transform the 291-home estate, including new roofing and external wall insulation to existing homes, improved estate layout, larger gardens, new open spaces, and better provision for private parking. Some empty properties were demolished to make way for new roads and the development of new build properties in a mixture of styles, sizes, and tenures to better meet housing need in the area. Six new bungalows have been included to suit customers who require more accessible housing, in line with Beyond Housing’s commitment to meet the diverse housing needs in the area. Eight of the 33 new homes will be available for shared ownership and rent to buy through Beyond Housing’s sales company, Viola Homes.

Sarah Hall, Regeneration Manager at Beyond Housing, said: “We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone and taken handover of the first new build homes as part of the regeneration. These are a great example of the high-quality homes we are committed to providing for local people and it’s great to see how new families are being attracted to the estate.

“We are very proud of what we have achieved so far, and we look forward to continuing the work to complete this exciting transformation.”

New customer Katie Micklewright, who has just moved into her new home, said: “I feel that I’ve been really supported. There has always been someone there at the end of the phone and would I recommend Beyond Housing to my friends and family? Absolutely one hundred percent, I would recommend them!”

Darren Sterling, Director of Regeneration & Sustainability at Equans, said: “It is brilliant to see that Katie has become the first resident to move into her new home at Church Lane North, a key milestone in Equans’ progress in revitalising and regenerating the estate.

“We are proud to hear how happy Katie is with the service she’s had and that she is enjoying her new surroundings. Hopefully, she will be the first of many happy new customers in the estate and I wanted to share my gratitude with both the Beyond Housing and Equans teams.”
