NORTH EAST HOUSING LEADERS TOUR FLAGSHIP REGNERATION SCHEME

19/10/2023

Beyond Housing recently welcomed representatives from Karbon Homes and Byker Community Trust for a tour of the company’s flagship regeneration scheme at Church Lane North in Redcar and Cleveland.

Building upon Beyond Housing’s commitment to providing high quality affordable homes in thriving communities, the regeneration is being undertaken, in partnership with contractor Equans, and is delivering wide ranging improvements to transform the 291-home estate. New roofing and external wall insulation to existing homes, an improved estate layout, larger gardens, new open spaces, new roads and better provision for private parking have all been included, alongside the provision of training and employment opportunities and continued engagement with the community.

The project also includes the development of 33 new build properties in a mix of styles, sizes, and tenures. Six new bungalows have been included to suit customers who require more accessible homes, in line with Beyond Housing’s commitment to meeting the diverse housing needs in the area. Eight of the new homes will be available for shared ownership and rent to buy through Beyond Housing’s sales company, Viola Homes.

Sarah Hall, Beyond Housing Regeneration Manager, said: “We were pleased to welcome Karbon Homes and Byker Community Trust for a tour of our regeneration project.

“We are very proud of what we have achieved so far, and we look forward to continuing the work, in partnership with Equans, to complete this exciting transformation. It is important that we share our experience across the sector, and in this region, so that others can benefit from this and understand how the scheme and our approach can be applied elsewhere to bring about regeneration and its wider impact.

“In turn, we are very much looking forward to visiting the Stanley Skills Hub delivered by Karbon Homes and also seeing at first-hand how Byker Community Trust is transforming the local community in the coming weeks.”

Victoria Keen, Place Partnership Strategic Lead at Karbon Homes, said: “We welcomed the opportunity to visit Beyond Housing and see some of the great work they’re doing. Shaping strong sustainable places is really important to us at Karbon Homes and we value the opportunity to share ideas and learn how others are tackling placemaking and regeneration in a collaborative way.”

Darren Sterling, Director of Regeneration & Sustainability at Equans, said: “We were delighted to be able to showcase the great work being done at Church Lane North to Karbon Homes and Byker Community Trust. The transformation of the estate is a shining example of the work that can be done when a social housing provider and a contractor approach these large-scale regeneration projects as a true partnership.

“I hope both organisations got something interesting out of their visit and can look at Equans’ and Beyond Housing’s approach to working collaboratively and with customers across large estates to deliver life-improving projects.”
