Cairn Group, which is based in Newcastle and operates across the UK, is helping to combat childhood cancer and improve staff wellbeing by fundraising for the TeamLuke Foundation.

Inspired by the legacy of the young and inspirational Luke Bell, Cairn Hotel Group has mobilised its network of colleagues, guests, members, friends, and families to take on a series of fitness challenges.

Whether it’s walking, running, cycling, swimming, rowing, or working out, every step, splash, and pedal counts in this massive drive. From embarking on a virtual journey from Lands’ End to John O’ Groats to inter-venue 5-a-side football competitions, the initiative is set to be as diverse as it is intense. The roster also includes fitness boot camps, team hikes, and sponsored car wash events.

The TeamLuke Foundation, a registered charity, stands as a powerful testament to the life and fight of Luke Bell, a brave eight-year-old from Darlington who tragically lost his battle to Neuroblastoma in December 2018.

Luke's journey lasted only 21 months from diagnosis to his untimely death. The foundation's mission revolves around enhancing awareness of this specific form of childhood cancer. Moreover, it plays a pivotal role in assisting parents in navigating services, providing tangible support, and funding research to refine diagnostic procedures and develop gentler treatments.

For Luke’s parents, Mark & Becky Bell, the path might seem challenging, but their determination to immortalise their son's legacy and bring about change remains unwavering. "We aim to ensure that Luke's battle wasn't in vain. If we can save just one child, it would mean the world," commented Mark.

Richard Adams, HR director at Cairn Group said: "We are proud and humbled to join forces with the TeamLuke Foundation, which like us is North East-based.

“Last year I ran a 100 mile ultra marathon in 22 hours to help raise funds, and colleagues also ran different sections. This year, we wanted to do something different, get more people involved and get a ‘win win’ in terms of wellbeing and supporting The TeamLuke Foundation.

“The take up from the sites is really good and I am sure we will raise a lot of money, increase awareness of TeamLuke Foundation and get a little bit fitter as well.”
