DPP associate director appointed as North East regional Chair of international planning organisation

DPP Planning Associate Director Jen Patterson, has recently been appointed as North East Chair of the RTPI (Royal Town Planning Association).

The RTPI is an international professional body for town planners with more than 27,000 members in 88 countries. It’s responsible for maintaining professional standards and is accrediting world class planning courses both in the UK and internationally.

Engaging with governments, experts, advocates, and international bodies to promote good planning, The RTPI takes the lead on policy development to research and promote planning in the long-term public interests.

Jen, who is based in DPP’s Newcastle office, one of five offices run across the UK, brings a wealth of experience to her new role with the RTPI, having spent more than a decade in the planning sector.

Joining DPP, an independent national planning consultancy, as a Senior Planner in July 2017, Jen has since gone on to be promoted twice, becoming Associate Director in 2021.

Since joining the company, Jen has been instrumental in leading on numerous significant planning applications across the North East including, for Durham University’s Maths and Computer Science building and the major Riverside Sunderland office scheme, and the Day Treatment Centre at the Freeman Hospital, as well as leading on major projects across the UK.

Jen’s key areas of focus for her year in post is putting planning at the forefront of driving the North East economy forward through greater collaborative working across sectors and between public and private sector organisations working in construction, development and planning industry.

Her first event as Chair will be a member’s reception on 16th February, which will be held at Banyan Bar in Newcastle.
