Ebac, the County Durham based UK manufacturer of washing machines, water coolers and dehumidifiers is to introduce a new range of products that tackle the climate change requirements of heating and ventilation in British homes.

The firm is planning to fulfil £4m of orders to the end of 2024 from a range of large installers and wholesalers.

The products are:

• New domestic heat pumps, suitable for the average UK home, made in Britain and expected to cost £3,000 to £5,000 depending on specification. This product is going to reduce the expected price of fitting these climate change friendly heating systems, confounding critics who claim the systems are too expensive for average homeowners.

• New Dehumidification with Heat Recovery (DHR) system. These devices use existing technology in a new and innovative way. When placed in a loft the units treat the air in a house to remove moisture and tackle the problem of condensation and dampness. The products are a technological solution for homeowners with dampness and condensation problems, particularly landlords who are going to be mandated by new legislation to deal with the problems of damp and mould in rented accommodation.

Chairman of Ebac, John Elliott MBE, DL said: “Our innovative design teams spent time during the pandemic designing two products that provide solutions to new legislation designed to make homes carbon neutral and free of damp.

“Our heat pump is a world beating design that delivers the performance needed by the average UK home but at a price that is nearer to existing boilers. It will confound critics who claim heat pumps are too expensive. We have already talked to some of the largest installation and wholesale businesses in the country and they have a strong pipeline of orders that our product will help fulfil.

“Our new DHR system uses our existing technology in a different way. The unit will be in the loft to recirculate and dehumidify the air in a property, reducing condensation and damp and tackling the root cause of mould. The system will become an essential component of the response of landlords to fulfil their forthcoming new obligations to make private properties mould free.

“Both these products represent the future for the Ebac business and our forward production and financial planning are based around bringing them to the market quickly in the second half of 2023. We were badly hit by the pandemic as sales fell and components were held up in the supply chain crunch, but we decided to push ahead with the R&D investment for the heat pumps and LBD systems, the result is that we are ready for the market and mass production will start soon.”
