Deanston House residents have benefited from a donation made from the community fund of the local Co-op store in Stirling.

The Deanston care service has received £100 to support residents to progress with their skills and hobbies.

Deanston House is a care home registered to provide care to 20 adults with learning disabilities.

The Co-op Local Community Fund supports projects across the UK. Every time members buy selected Co-op branded products and services; it gives local causes a helping hand.

Emma Maguire has been heavily involved in fundraising for Deanston House and support worker Gemma Williams applied on behalf of Deanston House and was delighted to receive the money. She said: “We’re so grateful to Stirling Co-op for its support. This will mean a lot to our residents and they’re having fun deciding what to spend it on.”

Marie Greenberry RNLD MSc, service director and registered manager at Deanston House, said: “Well done to Gemma for applying to the Co-op community fund and grateful thanks to our local store for supporting Deanston House.

“It makes a real difference when local businesses and organisations get involved with our residents. Being part of a community is so important and we are incredibly lucky in that respect.”

Deanston House is a 19th century, category B listed, country manor which has been sensitively renovated to provide high quality accommodation for service users, whilst maintaining all aspects of the external fabric and internal features of the original manor house.

The service offers a high standard of nursing care and support for people with learning disabilities who may also have a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder or behaviour which is challenging to support.

The home provides three individual and independent suites accommodating six service users in each, with a further two studio apartments on the ground floor.

It is part of Enhanced Community Healthcare Options (ECHO).
