A Deanston House, Doune service user is challenging herself to raise £500 to support the Ayrshire Hospice and the Deanston House activities team.

Amy has pledged to climb six hills to raise the money after the Ayrshire Hospice cared for the father of Katie Barr, a member of the team that supports Amy at Deanston House.

Deanston House offers a high standard of nursing care and support for people with learning disabilities, who may also have a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder.

During her challenge, Amy has already been supported by four service users and seven members of the Deanston House staff, who joined her in her first climb, reaching the summit of Dumyat Hill.

Amy said: “I would like to thank everyone who has supported me on my journey, and I can’t wait for my next challenge taking place soon.

“Fortunately, the rain was put on hold for what was a very enjoyable first climb.”

Celia Peat, registered manager at Deanston House said: “Amy is often seen outside with her friends and is always keen to take part in the activities that we put on for all our service users.

“Amy has chosen to raise money for the Ayrshire Hospice as well as supporting the Deanston House Activities team who put on lots of events and activities for Amy and other service users throughout the year.”

Deanston House is a 19th century, category B listed, country manor which has been sensitively renovated to provide high quality accommodation for service users, whilst maintaining all aspects of the external fabric and internal features of the original manor house.

The service offers a high standard of nursing care and support for people with learning disabilities who may also have a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder or behaviour which is challenging to support.

The home provides three individual and independent suites accommodating six service users in each, with a further two studio apartments on the ground floor.

It is part of Enhanced Community Healthcare Options (ECHO).
