Residents at a Hook care home have won a company-wide Christmas card competition thanks to their heart-warming design incorporating elements of the historic manor in which they live.

While gathering around one of the inglenook fireplaces at Old Raven House to discuss their entry into the Healthcare Management Solutions annual Christmas card competition, residents talked of their festive memories and chose symbols representing those special moments.

After settling on the symbols, they placed them across a photo of the wide fireplace around which they were sitting; combining their Christmas memories with the warmth of an Old Raven hearth.

The design was chosen from more than 50 entries from other homes across the UK operated by Healthcare Management Solutions.

Old Raven House is a manor house dating back to the 1500s and served as a country residence and coaching inn during its lifetime. It features several homely features including inglenook fireplaces, oak beams and leaded windows, as well as extensively planted grounds which provide blooms throughout the summer.

Anne Turner, care home manager at Old Raven House, said: “I am incredibly proud that our residents’ design was selected as the HCMS Christmas Card Competition winner. It is always stiff competition with so many talented residents across the company but our residents did a wonderful job and have created what is a very timeless, well composed card that brings together elements of their lives before and after coming to Old Raven House.”

Together they have created a wonderful design, which is simple but captures the classic Christmas image of stockings and other ornaments hung from a fireplace, incorporating elements which are sentimental and mean a a lot to them.”
