LEARNING-ABLED CARE HOME GRADUATES CONQUER FRENCH LEVEL 2

09/10/2023

Collisdene Care Centre celebrate the success of six individuals who have graduated with French Level 2 in modern languages. The celebrations were in attendance by family, friends, and famous faces such as the provost, Margaret Cooper, and local councillor, Elise Frame.

Activities coordinator, Rosie, has spent countless hours making linguistics be an opportunity for those at the care centre. Language learning sessions, with ‘Lingo Flamingo’, provide individuals of different abilities the chance to gain an understanding of major European languages such as French, Portuguese, and Italian.

Attending a ‘Lingo Flamingo’ session just once would entitle you to receive a certificate of achievement, however six individuals, all with learning difficulties, went above and beyond and set their goal on learning more about the French language. These motivated individuals took part in a twelve-week programme, the initiative being championed by Rosie, and each passed their SQA in Modern Languages – Level 2 – French. This incredible feat shows their dedication and hard work in mastering the intricacies of the French language.

In honour of this inspiring achievement, the staff at Collisdene Care Centre organised a graduation party. This joyous occasion was full of dancing, singing, and cheerful smiles all around.

This heartwarming ceremony was in front of the family and friends of the budding linguists as well as the provost, Margaret Cooper, and local councillor for Strathaven, Elise Frame. All congratulating and showing recognition of the achievement of the six individuals.

Local councillor for Strathaven, Elise Frame, has said regarding the event: “It’s such a special moment for everyone involved, but in particular the six individuals who graduated.

"They should feel an immense sense of pride in their achievements, and from talking to their families, it's clear that their loved ones share that same overwhelming pride.

“It was amazing to see the happiness in the eyes of the graduates, showing that the twelve weeks of hard work was worth it.

“Not only is this special for the individuals, but also for Collisdene Care Centre, as members off the staff, such as Rosie, have worked so hard to give those with learning difficulties an opportunity like this.”

Activities coordinator, Rosie, has said: “Collisdene Care Centre has been great at creating opportunities like this for those who seek our help, though all the credit should go to the individuals who put in those twelve weeks of work.

“It’s been great to see how they have all grown in confidence throughout this programme, and I look forward to see what mountain they decide to take on next.”
