Washington Lodge care home, part of Qualia Care, is in the running for a prestigious national award.

The Washington care home has been shortlisted in the Care Team of the Year category at the sixth annual Caring UK Awards, which recognise excellence and achievement within the care sector across the UK.

Alison Boote, Operations Director for Qualia Care, said: “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the whole team at Washington Lodge who have worked tirelessly to transform the home since we took over its running. I am incredibly proud that this has been acknowledged by the Caring UK awards.”

An awards spokesperson said: “Never has there been a more appropriate time to recognise the amazing and selfless contribution that our carers make and how they have given so much to protect and care for their residents in the face of unprecedented challenges.”

The awards are organised by Script Events in conjunction with leading care industry magazine Caring UK, with support from headline sponsor Virgin Money.

In each category up to seven finalists have been selected and they will now go through to the next stage of the judging process.

The winners will be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony at The Athena in Leicester on Thursday, December 7 when the industry will gather to salute all that is great about the care sector.

The nomination:

The incredible team at Washington Lodge has faced challenges head-on, overcoming obstacles, and turning the service around in less than a year. In this short period of time the home has navigated through administration, and inspections from the Local Authority, infection control, food hygiene, and another CQC inspection. Each hurdle was met with unwavering dedication and has resulted in a ‘Good’ CQC rating across the board for the home, a huge achievement.

Whether it's the daily activities that bring joy to our residents' lives or treating them to unforgettable meals out, our team's devotion is first class. Their selflessness and compassion has earned praise on the most recent CQC report and glowing carehome.co.uk reviews, raising their rating from 7.6 to an outstanding 9.6. The team has become a shining example of what hard work, passion, and what a united spirit can achieve.

Within the dedicated team, you will find a variety of experience and loyalty, with many of the team members having been with the company for over a decade providing experience and knowledge. And yet, have also welcomed new team members who have seamlessly transitioned into the care environment.

One extraordinary individual stands out amongst the team, Lara. Her dedication goes beyond the call of duty, often extending her 12-hour shifts to ensure the safety and security of our residents. She willingly takes on extra shifts, sparing us the need for agency staff, which the home was once dependent on and has now been reduced to zero.

The teamwork is outstanding at Washington Lodge and the residents' care is always above and beyond.
