PLANS SUBMITTED FOR FIRST PHASE OF DEVELOPMENT EXPECTED TO BRING 1,100 JOBS TO HARTLEPOOL

06/12/2023

Hellens Group, the leading North East property development company, has submitted detailed planning permission for the first phase of its Queens Meadow development project in Hartlepool, located in the new Hartlepool Mayoral Development Corporation.

Queens Meadow is already an established business park, home to recognised businesses and occupiers, including Pro-Pipe and Cleveland Fire Brigade Headquarters.

Working in collaboration with Hartlepool Borough Council and the Tees Valley Combined Authority, Hellens Group has drawn up plans which will deliver new commercial space, leading to the creation of up to 785 direct jobs and 354 indirect via the supply chain.

The first phase will deliver 104,000 sq ft (9,662 sqm) of employment space, designated for general business use, creating an estimated 130 new jobs.

The first phase also includes residential development that will not only support the growth of the business park but also make a significant contribution to addressing the housing needs in the borough. Approximately 210 dwellings, comprising a mix of 2, 3, and 4-bedroom homes, could be accommodated on the site.

The overall Queens Meadow development encompasses two areas. The larger area to the south is identified for the delivery of approximately 452,000 sq ft (42,000 sqm) of employment space catering for general industry and/or storage and distribution whilst the smaller parcel of land to the east is expected to accommodate around 210 dwellings.

Gavin Cordwell-Smith, chief executive of Hellens Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We recently asked people what they thought about our proposals for the development of Queens Meadow development and we have been encouraged to hear messages of support for bringing jobs and much needed housing to the area.

“Queens Meadow has the potential to deliver significant opportunities for people to live and work in Hartlepool – we are excited to be bringing these plans forward.”
