Avonbridge Care Home in Hamilton, part of Larchwood Care, proudly announces the opening of its very own tuck shop.

What sets this initiative apart is the involvement of the home's residents, who will actively participate in running the store.

The tuck shop, operated from a mobile cart, made from a upcycled medicine trolley, boasts an array of goodies from chocolates and crisps to cold beverages and water. Not only does this serve as a convenient facility for residents and their visitors, but all profits accrued from the sales will be channelled towards funding trips out and organising special events for the residents.

Emma Duffy, home manager at Avonbridge Care Home, expressed her enthusiasm: "This tuck shop is more than just a place to grab a snack. It's an opportunity for our residents to engage in a meaningful activity, one that fosters a sense of purpose and belonging. Moreover, it serves as a social hub, encouraging interaction and camaraderie amongst our community. A bag of bon bons can really brighten the day!”

The initiative underscores Avonbridge's commitment to continuously explore ways to improve the living experience for its residents. The act of participating in the day-to-day operations of the tuck shop not only bolsters the residents' confidence and self-worth but also aligns seamlessly with Larchwood Care's ethos of nurturing a holistic living environment.
