BRIAR HOUSE CARE HOME WELCOMES FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND

21/11/2023

Residents of Briar House Care Home in Kings Lynn had an enjoyable morning with a visit from some four-legged friends.

The residents were visited by a pair of miniature donkeys, Maizy and Chocky. The residents, staff, family and friends formed an instant connection with the pair and residents showered Maizy and Chocky with affection by stroking and feeding them.

After some encouragement and bribery in the form of ginger nut biscuits, mints and cheese cheddars, Chocky entered the home and visited the residents in their rooms, even braving the lift to the amusement of the residents.

Animal therapy, such as interacting with donkeys, offers a wide range of benefits that contribute to physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This includes reducing stress, enhancing relaxation, uplifting mood, and fostering social interaction.

Maxine Fearnehough, home manager said: “The day was a delight for everyone and I am so grateful to Miniature Donkeys for Therapy and Fun for making the day possible, and a special thank you to Karen for organising it.

“It was a great day as so many of the resident’s family and friends were in attendance”.

One resident said: “The morning with donkeys was fantastic. It brought back so many memories of growing up with animals, and it was a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends."

Briar House Care Home is operated by Larchwood Care and is rated as Good in all areas by the health and social care regulator, the Care Quality Commission.
