CARE HOME WORKERS TAKE THE PLUNGE AND BUNGEE TO FUNDRAISE

24/06/2022

Three Hamilton care workers – including one who is afraid of heights –are undertaking a sponsored bungee jump to raise money to treat the residents at Avonbridge care home.

Debbie Christison, Kristyn McWhirter, and Senga Arbuckle, are raising money for Avonbridge’s Residents Comfort Fund, which is used to provide extra trips out, book entertainers and other additional activities that residents would like to undertake.

The brave trio are set to bungee jump from Garry Bridge in Killiecrankie at the end of July, despite Debbie being afraid of heights.

Debbie Christison, a care assistant at Avonbridge care home, said: “I am scared of heights, but it’s really only the going up that frightens me. I am fine coming down - but I’ve not tested that by jumping off a bridge yet.

“It’s too late to back out now, and the ladies will never let me live it down if I don’t manage it. Our residents are relying on us to help boost the fund and take them on some fabulous days out over the Summer.”

Kelly O'Neil, activities co-ordinator at Avonbridge care home, who set up the bungee jump, said: “I’m really grateful that the care staff agreed to take part in the bungee jump. We always have lots of activities going on in the home, but we do fundraise ourselves for those little extras.

“We usually do lots of fundraising throughout the year for the Residents Comfort Fund, but it’s been difficult with the Covid restrictions.

“Now that those are lifted and we’re doing more and more activities with residents. We’re bringing back our Summer Fayre and we have some bingo sessions lined up. It’s going to be a busy Summer!”
